The world today have too many car brand and model. At the time we need to replace your car windshield, most of the case you will need to replace the windshield molding together as well because the old molding will got damage and unusable while removed.

However, it would be better if you know a little bit more about windshield molding of your car. Sometimes you can save big amount of money from expensive specific model windshield molding buying.

The universal windshield molding is the good solution.

First, you have to examine your car windshield and windshield molding.

If both the answer for above are "No" , It's quite likely you can choose Universal windshield molding for replacement.

There are so many profiles you can choose. Mainly have 2 types.

Outside windshield molding trim profile type.

This molding will cover the glass edge and hold it tight. The molding need strength and good hardness to hold the glass firmly. There will be small lip to cover with car windshield frame and protect the urethane underneath. This lip need to be soft and flexible otherwise it will be very difficult to push the glass sit on windshield frame.

Then you just select the correct profile shape and size compare to the old molding. Average 12-13 feet long (3.5-4.0 meter) can fit one windshield of passenger car, pickup or van.

Some model have sharp 90 degree corner. You can easily cut profile splice 45 degree and glued it together with super glue.

This molding will hide under the windshield glass and exposed all windshield edge. Adhesive tape required for this molding types.

Again, if the windshield glass have sharp corner 90 degree, you will need to make corner by cut and glue.

There's another tip for make curve corner. You can cut the profile zigzag so you can bend it at glass corner area.

Now you have idea and can save a lot of money if you know this stuff. You can also ask your auto glass replacement shop whether you can use universal windshield molding or you need specific model windshield molding.
