Installation car windshield guide for Classic car restoration

One of the most important part in every car restoration projects is Car windshield replacement because of safty concern. You will need a proper installation, equipment tools for remove and install might be required. Please don't forget new correct windshield rubber seal. Let's see step-by step to install car windshield.

Remove old wipers. You will need to reinstall them afterward. Recommend to keep it save and not missing.
Remove old windshield weatherstrip seal, Decorate windshield molding, Rubber gasket, Urethane whatever the car is using on old windshield.
Remove the old windshield with care. Carefully check if the windshield is still usable and have good condition. You might need new windshield to replace if the old one have any cracked.
Check the windshield frame condition, If it's still in good shape then just clean up the surface. If it's too rusty then you will need to weld and treat its surface before fitting the new windshield glass.
Fit the windshield weather stripping to the glass. Sourcing the Windshield rubber seal you need and buy the parts online here. Make sure the seal is compatible to your car body, model and year, VIN and so on. How to check car model here.
Tip1: Start fitting the rubber from 4 corner first then slowly push the rubber on upper, side or lower part.
Tip2: Some windshield rubber seal have no corners. You will need to find the straight joint on the windshield rubber seal and position it on the Center Upper or lower of windshield glass. Then start to fit from the 4 corner.
Install decorated chrome molding if required.
Install the windshield with rubber seal to the car frame. Carefully and gently put the glass on frame and adjust for correct spot. Depend on what type of windshield rubber seal it is. Check your windshield rubber type here.
- - Rope-In type : Put the rope inside the rubber cover lip all around the windshield, and leave some length for pulling out..
  Slowly pull the rope out starting from center lower and make sure the lip cover the frame properly. You might need other assistance help pushing the glass from outside at the same time with pulling rope from inside. Keep pulling and check the fitting until the rope completely remove out from seal.
- - Lock strip-insert strip : This kind of windshield rubber, you just easily put the windshield glass on frame. Then push the locking strip ( small rubber profile or decorate molding profile ) into the middle of profile to let the rubber fit the frame tight.
Reinstall decorate molding and wiper.
